This book is a promising start to the Recruit series. It is the first in a series of books so it is important to note that there is a bit of a cliffhanger at the end. The book focuses on a young woman named Hannah who loses her sister in a vampire attack. Instead of returning home to her family and putting them in danger she chooses to become a “recruit” and to learn how to kill vampires in a secret training facility. While there she becomes stronger and finds herself drawn to a Lycan (i.e. Werewolf) instructor at the academy named Will whom she is forbidden to be involved with. Ms. Kelly creates a world rich with interesting characters and drama. It is an interesting premise and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.Product details

A good start to the series. I can't wait to see what happens with Will and Hannah in the rest the books. Will is a great hero, there's something raw and appealing about him that makes me want to keep reading. I liked Hannah as well, she grew as a character through the book making me root for her and want her to be with Will. I will be reading the next book in the series.
For me the book had a slow start but I'm glad I was persistent and kept reading because it definitely got better. What I like most about the lead Hannah is that she doesn't play victim. She does what it takes to get what she wants, whether that's revenge for her sisters murder by vampires or bedding her Lycan instructor. She makes no excuses or apologies. I like her snarky take no crap attitude even in the bedroom. Book 1 ends with a cliffhanger so be prepared to want more.
Can I just say HOTT ass sex scenes!!!!! love with Will and Hannah romance. the book took me a few chapters to get into but once the action started I couldnt stop. when we are first introduced to Hannah she sensitive and timid. I honestly thought she would be another one of THOSE female leased, where she whines and cries the whole book. completely and pleasantly surprised when she became a sword wielding badass chick. now we just have to discover what she is??? my thought some type of lycan. whats your guess???
I enjoyed reading this book, but I think it's missing something. I never really got the spark of "oh I love this book and I'm going to read continuously until I finish it." But I did come back to read it and that means I didn't hate it.
It had some decent action, but lacked better descriptions and some things just felt forced/rushed.
I hope that Will and Hannah can work things out and eventually be together. And that is why I will continue the series.
I like the story and thought it flowed quite well. I was a bit put off by the graphic sex, it was a bit too voyeuristic for me, but as the actual plot was and is interesting, I managed to persevere. I love that Hannah becomes a great martial artist. Believable struggles getting to where she is and I like the characters (very important in my view).
I enjoyed this story. As per other reviews, I do not mind cliffhangers. I feel it adds to the build up of the story and keeps me coming back for more. I feel the lead female, Hannah, is a strong woman with a mission. The lead male, Will, is an Alpha in all descriptions of the word. I especially love how Kelly depicts the werewolf as he tries to fight his natural instincts to associate himself with the humans. I can say I am annoyed by the Rules but that only makes me enjoy the book even more.

Why no sexual relations among the men and women? It is obvious everyone needs this outlet and by prohibiting it will only cause more unease, chaos, and restlessness among the facility. A good warrior (slayer) is a calm and focused one.

With that ending, it is good to know that I do not need to wait 6-12 months to read the next book. I will be moving on to the next book immediately.
This is Vamp slaying at its best. I love this world of fighting vampires. This secret world of training to fight back. We follow a girl who had her world turned upside down and how she puts the pieces back together by getting vengeance. There is a world of paranormal and she is all in it now.
Of course there is a love interest brewing. Girls meets boy and all that with "he is not normal" twist. Lots of fighting. Love the banter between instructors and students. Love all these characters. So if you grew up watching Buffy and want more kicka$$ female lead read this series!!
